Associated Students of Management (ASM)
The Associated Students of Management (ASM) represents the student voice and enriches the Graduate School of Management (GSM) journey.

In addition to academics, this includes joining and leading student clubs and associations, joining the intramural sports teams, participating in events like the Net Impact Tahoe Trip, Casino Royale, and monthly BBQs. Above all it’s about being a part of our amazing GSM community!

About our Club

Our Mission

The mission of the Associated Students of Management is to enhance the value of the student experience at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management by creating a collaborative community that facilitates academic, social, and professional growth. We infuse energy into every activity while building a reputation of innovation and excellence.

Who We Are

The ASM is the representative student government at the University of California, Davis Graduate School of Management and is comprised of Full-Time MBA and MPAc candidates. We provide a framework for incorporating student ideas into the MBA program, networking with alumni, engaging in philanthropic activities and coordinating extra-curricular events. Members are entitled to support from the ASM board and have full access to activities, clubs and other benefits.

Students must be ASM members (pay a one-time membership fee) to run for club offices, including ASM, and to vote in ASM and club elections. Dues go directly to supporting the foundation of the student run activities listed above.

Our board is made up of six devoted students who are looking to make a difference during their time at the GSM.


Image of Associated Students of Management (ASM)Karen is a 2016 candidate at the GSM interested in technology and brand management. In addition to her role on the ASM she serves as the internal recruitment lead for the GSM Ambassadors. Karen is a native of the Central Valley, hailing from Fresno, Calif. She attended California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo where she double majored in philosophy and political science. While at Cal Poly Karen was heavily involved in Associated Students Inc. She chaired the University Union Advisory Board, where she served as the liaison between the student body and the university president on all matters regarding student fee-funded facilities (University Union, Recreation Center and Sports Complex). She led a seven-person board to organize and execute the opening of a newly constructed $72 million Recreation Center. After graduating she returned to her agricultural roots and launched a boutique olive oil company, Artemis Olive Oil. She continues to be involved in her family’s gourmet raisin business. Today, when she is not doing homework in a coffee shop, she can be found training for half marathons and beer tasting. 

Vice President and Club Liaison

Image of Associated Students of Management (ASM)Jose is a 2016 MBA candidate focusing on business development and analytics. In addition to his duties with ASM, Jose is the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Association vice president and the Challenge for Charity VP of finance. He is interested in international business, and in disruptive technologies that improve the quality of life in underdeveloped countries. Jose holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from UC Davis; prior to attending the GSM, he worked in large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing. He is fascinated by innovations involving biotechnology, more particularly in medical devices. When he is not interacting with Davis startups, he is out playing tennis, reading Game of Thrones, or visiting old friends.

Director of Finance and Operations

Image of Associated Students of Management (ASM)Zalak is a first-year MBA candidate with a focus in finance and data analytics. Prior to attending UC Davis, Zalak worked as a senior consultant at Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd. He looks to combine his technical expertise and management experience of the GSM to shape his career. As director of operations and finance for the ASM, Zalak is responsible for creating and managing yearly budgets, handling fund disbursements and continuing to guide the ASM on its way to becoming a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization. He is also closely involved with organizing the ASM’s largest event, Casino Royale. Besides sitting on the ASM board, Zalak is the social media lead for the Ambassadors program at Graduate School of Management. He absolutely loves traveling and outdoor activities. 

Director of Alumni Relations and Orientation

Image of Associated Students of Management (ASM)Jeff is a 2016 MBA candidate focusing on finance and agribusiness. In addition to his role with ASM, he is the VP of the Food & Wine Leadership Association, prospective student coordinator for the GSM Ambassadors and a member of the Finance Association. A native of the Bay Area, Jeff attended Gonzaga University for his undergraduate degree and most recently moved back to California from Seattle, Wash.  For the past three years he has worked in sales and marketing in the wine and spirits industry and is a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW). This summer he will be working as a credit intern with CoBank in Sacramento. Jeff has a passion for the food and beverage industry and came to Davis to continue to build a career in the agriculture sector. Outside of his studies, you can find him playing intramural sports, cooking/BBQing, hiking, hunting and attempting to practice yoga.

Director of Marketing and Communications

Image of Associated Students of Management (ASM)Jessie is a 2016 MBA candidate focusing on business analytics and technology management. She attended National Chi Nan University for her undergraduate degree in international business studies. She was the captain of her university basketball team, leading it to second place in the national basketball championship. After graduating, Jessie worked as a Google AdWords account manager, gaining extensive experience with digital marketing and data analysis. Jessie possess the essential marketing and communication skills that she wants to use at ASM. She believes that inclusion and diversity drive innovation, and that enhancing inclusion and embracing diversity would create a better culture and attract more talent to the GSM. In her free time, Jessie enjoys traveling, playing violin and watching sports.

International Liaison

Image of Associated Students of Management (ASM)Rahul Churiwala is a 2016 MBA candidate emphasizing on marketing and strategy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering. He is fascinated by the impact of technology on business and the management side of a business, and that led him to take a year- long product management positionwith Ravi Metal Works. He next joined Accenture as software analyst, working with them for almost four years and serving as a bridge between clients based in Finland and his team based in India. He likes to keep up with the latest technology trends,is a Psychedelic Trance music fan and loves to travel. He has participated in various sports representing his state and his university.
