Returning to UC Davis as a Dean’s Distinguished Speaker on May 10 was a homecoming of sorts for Jess Jackson, founder and principal owner of Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. It was at Davis where the lawyer-turned vintner first learned the finer points of winemaking and the importance of quality and value, the two factors he says have become the bedrock of his business — one he never intended to be in.
