General information

Health Insurance Requirements

You are required to have health insurance. UC Davis provides a major medical health insurance plan to you. The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) covers medical services not available at Student Health and Wellness Center and authorized by a SHWC physician.

SHIP coverage begins on September 12. The 2012-2013 premium was $760 per quarter or $2,280 per year. The premium for 2013-2014 has not yet been set. You may waive SHIP if you have comparable health insurance. Otherwise, this is automatically added to your student account. Note: Most international coverage is not equivalent to SHIP.

Student Health and Wellness Center, an on-campus clinical facility, is available to you and provides services at discounted rates. These services include preventative, primary and specialty care as well as urgent, same-day and scheduled appointments. Complete information, including information on requesting a waiver, is on their website: healthcenter.ucdavis.edu.
