Welcome from the Dean
Accept the Challenge to Be a Part of Something Special

Image of Welcome from the Dean

In 2009, I moved 6,000 miles from London, England to join a very special group of people at UC Davis. The Graduate School of Management is a close-knit learning community of respected faculty, committed staff, talented students and successful business leaders who are poised to address critical issues facing businesses and governments today, such as food, water, energy, and economic prosperity.

The University of California, Davis is one of the world’s great research universities committed to clean energy, technology and environmental sustainability. Each day I draw inspiration from the commitment and investment the business school and university have put toward being a leader in these critical areas that touch each and every one of us.

My greatest joy comes from interacting with our talented students and faculty and celebrating their success. Our program will push you to do more than you thought possible. You will stretch your imagination and goals while testing your assumptions about the world.

Whether you will be traveling 6 miles or 6,000 miles, I very much look forward to welcoming you to this world-class community. We hope you accept our challenge and join us.

What opportunities, decisions, events have shaped your professional life?

My career path has been a climb across a jungle gym rather than a tangent up a corporate ladder. As a child, I used to thumb through the three-inch JCPenney catalogue, picking out the professional women who I would grow to be. I wanted to rule the world from a corner office in a suit and heels. I wanted to shed my humble origins and become Corporate Barbie.
