Joe Schmidt has over 20 years of business development, strategic planning and financial management experience at leading agricultural multinationals and emerging technology companies. In his current role with Bayer CropScience, Schmidt is a member of the team responsible for the origination and assessment of acquisitions and the development, structuring and closing of licensing agreements and strategic partnerships. He came to BCS via its acquisition of AgraQuest, Inc. where he was VP of Business Development. Leading up to the acquisition, Schmidt was integral in origination and maturation of relationships with Bayer companies and in the closing of the acquisition transaction. Prior to joining AgraQuest, he was VP of Business Development for Ventria BioScience, one of the first companies to commercialize recombinant proteins from plant-based manufacturing systems. He was also an early employee and the Director of Business Development at CyberCrop, an agricultural e-commerce start-up. Earlier in his career, he held managerial positions in strategic planning, business development, trading and internal audit at Deere and Company, Cargill, Inc. and Purina Mills Inc.

Schmidt holds an MBA with concentrations in Marketing & Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Wartburg College.
