Part I: Overview & Mutual Expectations
Career Development Handbook for Part-time Students

Working with the Career Development Team is optional for Part-time students. However, in order to use the Career Development, you are expected to take individual responsibility for your individual career development. You will need to be ready for opportunities by being thoroughly prepared and spending the necessary time and effort on your job search. You must be committed to the process, proactive in your search and become familiar with all the tools and resources available in the Career Development Handbook for Part-time Students.

To apply for a Graduate School of Management-managed job posting, all UC Davis MBA students must complete the same requirements, both Daytime and Part-time candidates. We have these requirements for several reasons:

  1. The MBA job market remains intensely competitive, and you need to be prepared with the best marketing materials—résumé and cover letter—reviewed by Career Development.
  2. You need to be fully prepared to interview effectively which is why we have you work with Interview Stream prior to interviewing for Graduate School of Management-managed job postings.
  3. MBA employers have high expectations and we want you to meet and exceed them.
  4. The Career Development team has committed to these employers (for Graduate School of Management-managed job postings) that the applications they receive have been vetted by Career Development. This is different from the open postings in the Career Development newsletter where you apply directly to the employer.

Again, please remember that these requirements for applying for Graduate School of Management-managed job postings apply to all UC Davis MBAs, not just our Part-Time MBAs. We have them in place to boost your success and enhance the reputation of all UC Davis MBAs.

We will work diligently to develop career opportunities, provide contacts with local, regional, national and international companies and implement programming designed to enhance your job search knowledge and abilities. We will assist in developing the career plan and job search strategy that is right for you.
