Lonnie J. Rush is Managing Partner of RCM Partners Fund, a value investment fund modeled after Warren Buffett’s investment partnerships in the 1950’s, and is Chief Investment Officer of Farnam Street Investments, a registered investment advisor specializing in separately-managed accounts for IRA’s and taxable accounts.

In 2007 Mr. Rush was recognized for his innovative work in the energy industry when he was selected as a finalist for the Applied Innovation Awards for Business Excellence sponsored by Forbes Magazine. He was one of about 20 finalists nationwide selected across all business sectors.

In 2011, Mr. Rush co-founded Grid Subject Matter Experts (GridSME), an energy consulting firm specializing in niche IT and energy management system projects, and is currently the company’s CFO. 

From 2006-07, Mr. Rush held the position of Director of Grid Operations Development for the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), which manages approximately 80 percent of the electrical grid in California. His responsibilities included business continuity of the satellite office in Alhambra, CA and business development of Operations at the primary office in Folsom, CA. He worked on business development issues relating to wind energy, demand response technologies, and energy and transmission market design.

From 2005-06, Mr. Rush served as Manager of Real Time Operations at the CAISO of both its Folsom, CA and Alhambra, CA facilities. Mr. Rush oversaw a staff of approximately 75 and a budget of approximately $15M. His staff’s primary responsibilities included the 24×7 operation of the California electrical grid. Mr. Rush has also worked in operations as Manager of Real Time Scheduling, where he oversaw a staff of 21 and a budget of approximately $4 Million. His responsibilities included the oversight and management of energy transactions in real time.

From 1998-00, Mr. Rush worked in various operations roles and assignments for Northern California Power Agency. Mr. Rush and his staff were critical in acquiring energy across the Western United States, Canada, and Mexico during the energy crisis. In 2002, Mr. Rush also testified as an expert witness in Federal Energy Regulatory Council hearings addressing energy contracts, generation outages, and the 2000-01 California energy crisis issues.

Mr. Rush has also served as an industry representative for the North American Energy Reliability Council Interchange Scheduling Committee, which is responsible for recommending and drafting policy on energy related issues in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

Mr. Rush is a follower and practitioner of value investing. He makes the annual pilgrimage to Omaha, NE for Warren Buffett’s annual Berkshire Hathaway meeting. He has studied extensively the investment philosophy and investment techniques of value investors Benjamin Graham, Warren Buffett, Joel Greenblatt and Walter Schloss. Mr. Rush’s interests include reading, travel, sports, health and fitness, and charitable endeavors.

Mr. Rush has co-instructed a course on Value Investing at the University of California, Davis Graduate School of Management since 2009. He received his M.B.A. Degree with a concentration in Finance and Accounting from the University of California, Davis in 2006. He received his Bachelor of Arts Economics Degree from California State University Sacramento in 1998.
