Big Bang! Frequently Asked Questions

How can I protect the confidentiality of intellectual property?

We are committed to preserving the confidentiality of every submission. Our judges are professional investors and business service providers who will treat the information contained in every business plan according to the highest professional standards of privacy. However, due to the nature of the competition, we do not require NDAs of our judges in the competition. Additionally, the Elevator Pitch round and Final Awards presentations are public events and may be recorded.

I am not affiliated with UC Davis, but I want to participate in the business competition. Is this possible?

Yes. The competition is open to the public. View Rules and Eligibility.

I am in the part-time UC Davis MBA program in San Ramon and/or Sacramento. Can I participate in the competition?

Absolutely! We highly encourage students in the part-time MBA programs to participate. You can participate with your own idea or join a team. Teams are often looking for team members with skills unique to our MBA students – finance, marketing, business development, etc. Workshops are not required so attend as many as you can. If you are looking to join a team, complete the “Find a Team” form or come to the contestant mixer. Alternately, encourage your classmates to form a part-time MBA team to compete!

What type of assistance is available for contestants?

The Big Bang! workshops are designed to help you prepare for the competition and provide you guidance in developing a business. In addition, institute staff members are available for support during designated office hours (TBD).

Who are the judges and what are their backgrounds?

Judges include investors, experienced entrepreneurs, industry executives and experienced managers from the Sacramento region and San Francisco Bay Area.

How big should a team be?

Your team should be as big as is necessary to produce a polished and professional business summary and presentation pitch. Typically, teams range from two to five members.

Can I be on more than one team?

Yes, but the judges may regard this as lack of focus and commitment.
