Expectations vs Reality

Prior to coming back to school, I had a lot of expectations. I purchased a new suit, dress shirts, ties and dress shoes. I subscribed to the Wall Street Journal, watched MSNBC and brushed up on my current business events. I wanted to be the picture of professionalism, but my expectations were way off.

Business school so far has been a lot more t-shirt and jeans and a lot less suit and tie. UC Davis has a very casual atmosphere. I am on a first name basis with most of my professors. I watch Biggest Loser with my classmates (and not Hardball or Mad Money). We play Rock Band and have taco eating contests.

I figure there is plenty of time to be professional when I go back to work, but for now I’m going to go practice for the kickball tournament.
