Your Week as a UC Davis MSBA Student
As a prospective UC Davis MSBA student, you might be wondering what your week might look like – especially since classes are held on Fridays and Saturdays.
- How intense is this program going to be?
- How often will I meet with my peers?
- Will I have time to work a full-time job?
- Just how busy am I going to be?
The day/week in the life as a UC Davis MSBA student will differ from student to student and quarter to quarter. We’ll offer here a look at a typical week in your first quarter. And remember, not every day will be the same – in fact far from it – but this is a good start to begin framing your priorities.
Your Fridays and Saturday classes will immerse you in case studies, theoretical and practical techniques, seminars, guest speakers, simulations and team projects that will help you build your knowledge in the four core competencies: business, data, analytics, and practice. The better prepared you are for class, the more you will be able to contribute to discussions in a meaningful way. During the week, expect to spend the majority of your time on studying coursework, collaborating with your Practicum team and preparing for class.
TEAMWORK & GROUP PROJECT
The program is designed to emphasize teamwork and a learning-by-doing approach. On the very first day, you and the other four members of your team will begin consulting on a real-world business analytics project for an MSBA industry partner. Your 10-month engagement with a “client” will far beyond the typical capstone project. Under the direction of program faculty, you’ll learn analytics by navigating the complete project lifecycle on business problems drawn from real industry data. Learn more about how you’ll be putting your skills into practice.
Expect to spend 8-16 hours a week working with your project team outside of your Friday/Saturday classroom sessions.
You’ll join a cohort of talented students from around the world, with a wide-range of skills in business, computing, quantitative analysis or organizational effectives. Expect to spend 24-36 hours every week outside the classroom studying by yourself, in informal study groups or with your Practicum team. You’ll benefit from the variety of perspectives and expand your worldview—keys to your career success.
