Our Mission

The Associated Students of Management (ASM) enhances the value of the student experience at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management (GSM) by creating a connected and collaborative community that facilitates academic, social, and professional growth.

The ASM provides a framework for connecting the students at the GSM not only with each other, but with administration, faculty, and alumni.

Who We Are

The Associated Students of Management (ASM) enhances the value of the student experience at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management (GSM) by creating a connected and collaborative community that facilitates academic, social, and professional growth.

The ASM provides a framework for connecting the students at the GSM not only with each other, but with administration, faculty, and alumni.

Students must be ASM members (pay a one-time membership fee) to run for club offices, including ASM, and to vote in ASM and club elections. Dues go directly to supporting the foundation of the student-run activities listed above.

EMMA O’ROURKE-POWELL
President

Emma O'Rourke-Powell Emma is a 2019 MBA Candidate at the GSM who is interested in general management and organizational behavior. In addition to her role on the ASM, she serves as the Director of the GSM Ambassadors. Emma grew up in Davis, graduating from Da Vinci Charter High School. A lifelong feminist, Emma decided to make a career of supporting young women in achieving leadership roles. After graduating from Whitman College, she worked as the Resident Director of an all-women’s residence hall, and then became a program manager for UC Davis’ Nursing School. Emma’s summer 2018 MBA Internship is with Girls Leadership, a non-profit organization that provides evidence-based leadership training for middle- and high-school girls.

CARRIE BECKMAN
Vice President

Carolyn Beckman Carrie is a 2019 MBA Candidate who is interested in marketing and brand management for the CPG industry. She is also the Director of Marketing for the Food & Wine Leadership Association. Carrie grew up in San Diego, California and attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington where she earned her B.A. in Sociology and Environmental Studies. She networked her way into the food industry where she worked as an Associate Business Development Manager for Advantage Solutions, a grocery brokerage firm. Carrie’s 2018 summer internship is with Church & Dwight, a manufacturer of household products based in Ewing, New Jersey. Carrie enjoys drawing, hiking, and eating great food.

HALEY PLEASANT
Director of Information

Haley Pleasant Haley is a 2019 MBA candidate interested in organizational behavior and strategy. In addition to her role in ASM, she also serves as Internal Recruitment Lead of the GSM Ambassadors. After earning her B.A. in Economics and Communication at UC Davis, she worked for 3 years in administrative and operations roles in the staffing and recruiting industry before returning to UC Davis for her MBA. She is excited to be back in Davis and take advantage of all that the city and the GSM have to offer!

SMRITI TIBREWAL
First Year Liaison

Smriti Tibrewal Smriti is a 2019 MBA candidate interested in finance and business strategy. After earning her B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, she spent four years working as a Systems Engineer in the aviation and aerospace industry. Smriti also serves as the President of Women in Leadership, and a board member of Watermark, a non-profit organization focused on empowering women to make their mark in their companies, careers, and communities. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring new destinations, listening to music, and cooking.

TOMMY ZHANG
Director of Finance

Tommy Zhang Tommy is a 2019 MBA candidate interested in business strategy, finance and investment. In addition to his role on the ASM board, he serves on the board of Women in Leadership. Prior to joining UC Davis Graduate School of Management, he worked in the NYC startup tech industry for over 8 years, and had the opportunity to establish his own company. Tommy joins the program as a career switcher, and hopes to pursue a career in finance. In his spare time, Tommy enjoys testing new technology, exploring nature, and networking!

COFFEY ZHANG
International Students Lead

Coffey Zhang Coffey is a 2019 MBA Candidate who is interested in technology, product management and data analytics. As the International Student Lead, she aims to advocate for all international students and to promote diversity and inclusion within the GSM community. In addition to her role on the ASM, she serves as the Assistant Director of the GSM Ambassadors. After earning her B.B.A. in Finance and Risk Management from University of Wisconsin – Madison, she spent four years working in IT Consulting as a Service Delivery Manager specialized in Oracle enterprise systems. Coffey will start her product management internship this summer at Aruba Networks, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company that provides data networking solutions for businesses worldwide. In her spare time, Coffey enjoys dancing, learning Spanish, and exploring new cuisines.

SATCHEL SUMMERS
Director of Alumni Relations

Satchel Satchel is a 2019 MBA candidate with a focus in finance and investments. In addition to his role on the ASM, Satchel also serves as the Prospective Student Lead for the UC Davis MBA Ambassadors. After earning his B.A. in Media and Communication Studies from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA, Satchel spent four years working in general management for retail fashion before coming to Davis. Satchel will spend his summer interning in the energy industry with Sacramento Municipal Utilities District in Finance and Enterprise Planning. Outside of the classroom, Satchel has a passion for sports, television and film, fitness, and investing.

XIAOQIN (PHENIX) WANG
Director of External Events

Xiaoqin (Phenix) Wang Phenix is a 2019 MBA candidate focusing on strategy and operations. After graduating from Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, she spent over 10 years working in international markets, initially as a sales professional and then as a supplier development manager. Phenix is passionate about international collaboration & cooperation, and intends to pursue a career in that space. She is curious by nature and likes to try new things and explore the possibilities of life. She enjoys boxing, scuba diving, movies, and daydreaming.

LAUDAN YAVARI
Director of Internal Events

Laudan Yavari As a 2019 MBA Candidate, Laudan selected UC Davis for her MBA because of the opportunity to leverage the school’s excellence in agriculture in furthering her educational experience. Upon graduating from the University of San Diego with a degree in Marketing, she worked in the food and agricultural space. Her passions include sustainable agriculture, and the societal and environmental impacts of the food system. She hopes to make a positive impact in the world through her career. Her favorite part about the MBA program is the authentic community that the GSM offers and the amazing people she gets to interact with and meet every day. As a highly social and genuinely positive person, she is always ready to plan the next fun occasion for the GSM!

RAYMOND LI
Director of Marketing

Raymond Li Originally from Vienna, Raymond is a 2019 MBA candidate with a focus on data analytics. In addition to his role on the ASM, he serves as the social media lead for the GSM Ambassadors. as well as the vice-president of finance for Challenge for Charity. Raymond holds an electrical engineering degree from Imperial College London and has previously worked at the United Nations. His most recent role prior to the GSM was in business analytics at an AI-based advertising company in the Bay Area. He will be interning at Tesla in the summer with a focus on finance and business analytics. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, playing basketball, and participating in Spartan races.
