Institute Names Joe DiNunzio as Interim Executive Director
Seasoned executive takes helm of Mike and Renee Child Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Joe DiNunzio, a senior executive with three decades of creative, technical and business leadership, has joined the Mike and Renee Child Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship as interim executive director, effective July 1, 2018. He will lead the institute’s strategic direction, program development, fundraising and relations with relevant academic programs at UC Davis as well as its network of partners, donors and sponsors.

Promising startups showcased in annual UC Davis business competition
Two UC Davis undergraduates won the $10,000 first prize in the 18th annual UC Davis Big Bang! Business Competition on Thursday, May 24, 2018. Their venture, Japa Inc., takes the pain out of finding parking with a mobile app that employs smart data and advanced analytics to provide drivers with real-time parking availability. The award recognizes the top innovation coming out of this year’s competition.

Finalist Presentations + Awards Ceremony Held May 24
The five finalist teams in the 2018 UC Davis Big Bang! Business Competition will pitch their ventures this Thursday, May 24, at an awards ceremony at the Walter A. Buehler Alumni Center.
Sixty-two teams representing more than 250 aspiring entrepreneurs participated in the 18th annual competition. The contest provides workshops, mentorship, and networking opportunities to accelerate commercialization and advance the startup process. It is open to UC Davis students, faculty, researchers and staff as well as to the public.

We are happy to announce our 2018 Big Bang! Business Competition semifinalists. These 15 teams have been selected from the 62 teams—representing more than 250 aspiring entrepreneurs—that participated in this year’s contest. They will compete in the semifinals May 16.
