CalCPA Awards Scholarships to MPAc Students

The Sacramento chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA) recently awarded scholarships to two students in the Master of Professional Accountancy program at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management.

Accounting graduate students recognized by CalCPA “I’m lucky to already have a job offer in San Francisco, but won’t start until January 2019,” said Courtney Gilbert MPAc 18, who will work for BDO, one the most widely recognized CPA firms. “With the scholarship money, I can start to pay off my loans while starting work.”

Gilbert was new to accounting before joining the program and was pleased to find a master’s program at UC Davis for highly motivated people like herself who have backgrounds outside of accounting.

“The scholarship recognizes my hard work at nonprofit organizations, such as VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), and encourages the start of my career in accounting,” said graduate student Jennifer Gong MPAc 18. “I’m excited about this award because it allows me to learn more about the amazing opportunities at CalCPA.”

CalCPA is the largest professional association for CPAs in the U.S. The society awarded each of the students $1,500 in scholarships and honored them at a CalCPA award luncheon in November. A number of sponsors contributed to the fund, which resulted in a total of $43,000 in scholarships.
