The Economist Ranks Faculty Quality No. 9 Globally
2017 Which MBA? Full-Time MBA Rankings

(Davis, CA) — The Economist’s 2017 Which MBA? survey ranks the UC Davis Full-Time MBA program among the best in the world and the U.S.

The Graduate School of Management’s faculty quality is ranked No. 9 globally, up from No. 10 last year and a steady rise of six spots over the past three years. This is based on the ratio of faculty members to students, the percentage of full-time faculty members with Ph.D. degrees, and faculty rating by our students.

“Our faculty continue to excel both in their research productivity and in their ability to design and deliver an innovative MBA curriculum,” said Dean H. Rao Unnava. “We are delighted that our students are able to experience it and acknowledged it in The Economist survey.”

Overall, The Economist places UC Davis among the top accredited MBA programs in the U.S., at No. 49, and No. 83 globally. The Economist only publishes a list of the top 100 schools worldwide.

Methodology

The Economist solicited input from more than 150 business schools and students/alumni, and then measured and weighted the data to calculate the overall rankings. The rankings are based on various components’ importance among business students and alumni who graduated within the last three years.

Data were collected during spring 2017, using two surveys. The first was completed by schools with eligible programmes and covers quantitative matters such as the salary of graduates, the average GMAT scores of students and the number of registered alumni. This accounts for around 80% of the ranking. The remaining 20% comes from a qualitative survey filled out by current MBA students and a school’s most recent graduating MBA class.

Memory has been built into the rankings by taking a weighted average of data from 2017 (50%), 2016 (30%) and 2015 (20%) to provide a rounded picture of the school over a period of time.

In addition to the UC Davis Graduate School of Management’s consistent rank among the elite MBA programs in the U.S., the global reach of The Economist’s results helps raise the visibility of UC Davis among the world’s top business schools and MBA candidates, especially in Europe and Asia.
