Carl Jensen is studying for a master’s degree in international agricultural development, with a dual focus on integrated soil fertility management systems and appropriate engineering technologies for the developing world.

What’s important about your research—and where do you hope to take it?

Both these emphases occur at the intersection of agronomy and technology and aim to use both modern and traditional knowledge in novel, helpful ways.

What are you most passionate about in your work?

The sharing of knowledge in either discipline can have a positive impact on the livelihood of a farmer; taken together, they can span the entire breadth of the production cycle and greatly improve a small-holder farmer’s ability to provide adequate nutrition for her family and generate income.

How will the Business Development Fellows program help you to change the world?

I’m looking to the program for a greater understanding of how ventures are created, operated and sustained so that technologies and tools can be most effectively spread to those who want a product or service.
