The Jerome J. and Elsie Suran Chair in Technology Management

This endowment was established by a generous gift from Jerome J. and Elsie Suran. Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Suran moved to Davis in 1982, so that he could accept a joint appointment in the Graduate School of Management and the College of Engineering. Mr. Suran’s career in private industry spanned 34 years―30 years of which were with the General Electric Company. He was recognized for his pioneering work in transistor and integrated circuit technology and the development of the GE implantable cardiac pacemaker. He is the former president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the largest technical society in the world. Mrs. Suran worked side-by-side with her husband, hosting dinner meetings for GE employees, customers and colleagues and organizing programs for the IEEE. Mr. Suran is a dedicated teacher of management students and was instrumental in establishing a course that applies classroom knowledge to real-world experiences in the work place. The faculty, staff and students of the School appreciate the Surans’ philanthropic spirit in making this gift possible.
