Global population has passed 7 billion people, and by 2050 we
will have 9 billion people on our planet. We live in a world
where many people are food secure, and the world actually grows
enough food for all of us. But that extra 2 billion people are a
looming challenge in the food, ag and health industry.
Last weekend, Net Impact hosted their annual Tahoe Retreat. I went both this year and last year, and have always had a blast. It’s a great way to relax a bit before classes get in full swing, and students get to know each other in a much more relaxed setting. Plus, it’s the first real opportunity for first and second years to meet!
It’s hard to believe that last year at this time I was in
orientation, full of questions, hope, excitement, (and a little
nervousness) about what the first year and summer of this MBA
program would bring.
Early this year, the GSM organized a series of MBA Treks to some
companies, including Brocade, NetApp, Lam Research, Disney (by
the way, hint: take full advantage of these Treks for networking
A stranger to United States, I carried a lot of luggage with me:
more than 5 years working experience, expectations of and biases
about American culture, my family and a few new friends from my
home country, and Chinglish (English with Chinese accent). But as
soon as I joined GSM community, I knew immediately that I would
have to be empty in order to be full.
First year of B-school life passed so quickly. Without a real
relaxation break, I have already begun my Internship at Fenwick &
West, a Silicon Valley law-firm, conducting research
about Venture Capital-backed companies and companies that have
recent IPOs in the U.S.
It is hard to believe that we are already nearing the end of the
academic year here at the GSM. Soon, we will be sending off the
graduating Class of 2013, and us first years will be
transitioning into our summer internships.
On April 19th, 25 UC Davis students and alumni banded together to take part in the 29th Annual C4C Sports Weekend. We competed in 11 of the 28 events, and though we did not win the coveted Golden Briefcase, we came out of the competition with great memories and everyone is excited to return in 2014.
