Virtual Handshakes with Accounting Firms Lead to Careers

Many MPAc students secure positions by Thanksgiving break

With demand for new talent on the rise, two dozen accounting firms extended virtual handshakes to our Master of Professional Accountancy students at our first virtual career fair during orientation.

A week before classes started, students met with recruiters in one-on-one video chats as well as group presentations. Many MPAc alumni returned to recruit UC Davis students to join their firms.

"I enjoyed Meet the Firms because, from the comfort of my desk at home, it gave me the opportunity to speak with a variety of professionals from firms of all sizes and locations. The event was still very interactive despite its move to a virtual platform and it played a large role in which firms I ultimately decided to submit my application." —Dominic Piombo MPAc 21

Firms at the event included ACG, Andersen, Apercen Partners, BDO, BPM, California Department of Finance, California State Auditor, Campbell Taylor Washburn, CohnReznick, Crowe, Deloitte, Eide Bailly, EY, Gilbert CPAs, Johnston Gremaux & Rossi, KCoe Isom, MGO, Moss Adams, Novogradac, Oracle-Finance, PwC, RINA Accountants & Advisors, RSM US, and Sensiba San Filippo.

Students also had a special opportunity to meet with Big Four accounting firm KPMG in a separate virtual event.

Acting quickly following the event, students began applying to firms, which often seek to recruit top talent by making offers early in the academic year. Many students secure a job offer by the Thanksgiving break.

“The incoming Class of 2021 is one of the more courageous in our program’s history,” said Will Snyder, executive director of the MPAC program. “When faced with the uncertainty introduced by the events of the past year, they chose to embrace the future. They chose optimism, and our program is well-positioned to prepare them for what may come.”
