General Education

GE Grid Worksheets

Use these fillable PDF files to plan out your general education requirements.

The General Education requirement promotes the intellectual growth of all undergraduates by ensuring that they acquire a breadth of knowledge that will enlarge their perspectives beyond the focus of a major and serve them well as participants in a knowledge-based society. It seeks to stimulate continued intellectual growth by providing students with knowledge not only of the content but also of the methodologies of different academic disciplines. It involves students in the learning process by its expectation of considerable writing and class participation. It encourages students to consider the relationships between disciplines.

For more information on the GE requirements, visit https://ge.ucdavis.edu/requirements.

The list below is not exhaustive and is included for your convenience to assist with schedule planning. There are many GEs offered by multiple different departments, and students are not required to choose only from this list. Be sure to check if any courses have prerequisites to enroll. Even some lower division GEs can have prerequisites.

Note that if a course is certified in more than one Topical Breadth area and/or more than one Core Literacy area, you may count the course units toward only ONE Topical Breadth area and only ONE Core Literacy area. For example, if a course carries credit for Arts and Humanities (AH), Social Science (SS), Domestic Diversity (DD), and Writing Experience (WE), you must choose either Arts and Humanities (AH) or Social Science (SS) and either Domestic Diversity (DD) or Writing Experience (WE).

Business Major GE Requirements

All business major students are required to complete the campus General Education requirement. Remember that AP/IB scores cannot be used to complete GE requirements.

Arts & Humanities (AH): 12 units

Core Literacies

Writing Experience (WE): 6 units

Oral Literacy (OL) or additional Writing Experience (WE): 3 units
