Teaching Assistantships

A number of teaching assistantships are available to qualified students. These teaching assistantships come with tuition remission and salary as outlined below. Teaching assistantships are granted to students with strong undergraduate records and who show promise as outstanding teachers. AcOPs needs a completed TA application from all students that are hired as TAs, per collective bargaining unit.

Teaching assistants are responsible for conducting discussion sections, holding office hours, and grading homework. You will be asked to administer midterm and final exams and be asked to hold extra office hours during midterms/finals. Teaching assistantships are either 25% or 50% per quarter and can be granted for one, two or three quarters.

A 25% appointment TA will be asked to lead 1 to 2 discussion sections per week, depending on allocation of grading/office hour duties. A 50% appointment TA will be asked to lead 2 to 4 discussion sections per week, depending on allocation of grading/office hour duties.

  • In 2019/2020, a 25% teaching assistant receives approximately $3,651 of salary.
  • In 2019/2020, a 50% teaching assistant receives approximately $7,302 of salary.

The amounts of salary and fee remission are adjusted annually. Students who hold a minimum of 25% appointment are eligible for fee remission benefits.
