MPAc Curriculum Updated to Stay Ahead of the Curve

Redesigned MPAc courses reflect strong grounding in accounting fundamentals

We’d like to let you know of exciting updates to our curriculum as the educational needs for practicing accountants continues to evolve.

UC Davis MPAc has redesigned our course offerings to reflect a strong grounding in accounting fundamentals, as well as providing several specific skill-sets vital to the long-term success of practicing accountants.

The curriculum focuses on three core areas including financial accounting, tax accounting and auditing. These three areas are the backbone of the public accounting profession. Students need a strong and current knowledge of these fundamental and ever evolving areas, regardless of their past educational background.

In addition to these fundamentals, the curriculum covers several topics that will differentiate UC Davis MPAc graduates and provide you with life-long skills that are necessary for continued success in the accounting profession.

  • Students will take a course in Accounting Data Analytics in which they will learn the basics of Big Data processing that is rapidly becoming a critical part of auditing and tax consulting.
  • The Communications course will enhance a student’s written and spoken professional communications. This is perhaps the single most important business skill a professional accountant can possess.
  • The Ethics and Forensic Accounting course will cover the exciting world of forensic, or investigative, accounting. It will also provide the necessary bedrock of ethics and professional standards that are the hallmark of a practicing accountant.

We are excited to roll this out to our incoming MPAc class of 2019. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me. I hope you will apply and we will have the opportunity to meet you in the fall.
